“Leaving clippings on the lawn provides the equivalent of 1 pound of nitrogen per 1,000 square feet of lawn. “In the lawncare industry, we’re realizing that rather than feed the lawn synthetically with fertilizers, we can choose to do it more organically by mulching grass clippings and leaving them on the lawn to sift in,” says Richard Hentschel, University of Illinois horticultural extension educator. Fortunately, for the sake of aching backs and nutrient-hungry lawns, it’s best to forgo the bag and opt to mulch lawn clippings and leaves instead.Įach little bit of plant material is full of nutrients, and being organic matter, when left in place, can improve the overall health of the soil which in turn, better supports the turf and potentially decreases inputs. Who loves lugging a heavy bag of lawn clippings to the compost pile or yard waste bin, or endlessly raking leaves in the fall? Pretty much nobody, that’s who. (Sorry, I don't know how to post a video on the forum. 318's could've had the 46" thin (which I LOVE) or the 50".): JD 318 (Remember: This is a 46" deck, which is a thin deck. JD 317 (Remember: 317's NEVER came with a 50" thick deck! Only the 318's came with one, so this one is modified.): To get a more view of them, here are some mowing videos to compare each: It has 1 more hp, but most of the 317's got an Onan 18 hp re-power (like the 318's had originally.) in them because of the Kohler engines weren't that good, if I am mistaken? My engine has the B43E. My vote: JD318 I just love how it has Power Steering and goes evenly on each side.
